I think that The United States should definately go metric. First of all there are only three countries in the world who don’t use metric and those include The United States, Libya, and the United States protectorates. In trading and buisness serious things could go wrong if both traders are not using the same system of measurement. Another reason we should go metric is because it is a lot easier to remember and convert because metric is all based on powers of ten. An example of how important using the same method of measurement is when an 150 million dollar international spaceship was destroyed because the American on board was using customary measurement and the other person was using metric. I hope I persuaded you that going metric is a very important thing to do.

I agree with chris b. that us should definatly go metric. only 5% of the world doesn’t use metrics, and those countries are lyberia, us, and u.s. protectores. Other countries and companies that sell to more than one country are stopping putting u. s. measurments products. This will be a huge drag in our economy. Metrics are easier to teach and learn, so that would be good for schools and younger children to learn a system that acctually makes sense. This is a quote. “mathmeticions are lazy, so they will want to do the easiest thing possible” so lets do somthing easy and switch to metrics!

I think the United States needs to use the metric system instead of customary, because 95% of the world uses metric units of measurement, but the United States is part of the 5% that doesn’t (but needs to). Using one type of measurement will minimize or eliminate any confusion that causes unnecessary accidents, like the spaceship getting destroyed, which happened because of the use of two different types of measuring. Conversion are a lot less of a hassle when using metrics, but using customaries its not as simple as just powers of 10. Also trading is another reason for transferring to metrics. Many countries are now saying that after 2009 they will not trade with the US if our products are not in metrics. This could result in our economy getting weaker and also many people would lose their jobs. I do not think we should stick with customary measurements and sacrifice losing jobs and our economy. I hope that my paragraph is enough to convince you to go metric!

The United States should go metric. Most countries are using the metric system as you read this blog comment. The United States stands out from the crowd. It uses the customary system. We use ferignheight(degrees sighn) while the rest of the world(besides Lybia and Myanamar) uses celcius. The metric system is bigger than customary system therefore making it more accurate. It is based on 10 while the customary system uses diferent numbers. The metric system uses distance origanally from nature like our body parts, etc. The customary system is used in sports. It also is harder to convert because of the numbers its based on. 95% of the world uses the meteric system. The only thing customary system is good for is sports. The metric system is good for converting things and its more accurate. Would you rather have measurement for hobbies or accuracy and more important things? Of course accuracy and more important things. Its time for the United States to come out of its shell and become one of the countries that uses the metric system. GO METRIC!!!
Stuff not part of my blog
I think that ferinheight is better than celcius because im used to it.
I hope i persuaded you enough.

Mr. Senator,
I by all means think that the United Sates should go metric. By this I mean that our country should officially adopt the metric system as our way of measuring. Today nearly 95% of the world uses the metric system. If the United States switched to the metric system, we would increase trade with the countries using the metric system because we would have the same consistent way of measuring, making it easier to trade, which would better the American economy. Also, the metric system, being based on a system of 10s, is easier to add and remember then the customary system. It is often hard to convert many measurments in the customary system, while it is much easier to in the metric system. Also, measurments are much more accurate in the metric system then in the customary system. If the U.S. switched to the metric system it save a lot of trouble, time, and better the economy and trade. I hope I persuaded you in the fact that the U.S. should go metric.

I think the U.S. should go metric. They should go metric because only 5% of the world uses customary and the other 95% uses metric. If an American and someone from another country, that uses the metric system, were trying to trade it would be very confusing for both people because they aren’t using the same measurement system. We should also go metric because the metric system is based on powers of ten so they are really easy to convert. The last reason we should go metric is that all of the metric units are easy to remember because they all end in the same suffix. I hope I persuaded you that the U.S. should go metric.

I also think that the US should go metric. Trading and measurements are a very big deal. How are we going to trade the right amout if there is no same amount everywhere. You would defenitly get ripped off. 95% of the world uses the metric system. 5% uses costomary. It also helps with buisnesses, if they are big company and they work all over the world it is great to know the metric system. I think that this is a benifit for us students, It is easier to convert the metric system. It works by the power of ten. Than meens easy mental math and not alot of dividing. I know I would hate to go somewhere out of the country and not know how far something is, just because that country uses the metric system. I would really hate moving to the US and not knowing how far a mile is and how much a gallon is and how many pints are in a gallon ect. The cusomary system is very hard to convert, lots of dividing,so not fun. I know that I don’t want to change some things, but in this case change is good.

Unlike everyone else, I dont think we should go metric. We (as Americans) already know the customary unit. If we go metric, we will have to learn a unit all over again! Our Parents will have to relearn a unit and they will have to go to school again! We don’t want our parents to stop working and go to school again! Also, we will have to remake everything that has a customary unit on it and we will go down in our economy! I hope you agree that we should not go metric!

We as a country should go metric because every other country besides the U.S. and two other countries. also the metricvc system is based off of ten annd is easy to convert. the customary sytem is not and it is hard to convert thing. Also, other countries will not want to do deals with us unless we go metric.

I also think that we, meaning the U.S., should offically go metric. The first reason that we should go metric is that only 5% of the world uses customary. Trading is a lot easier if we all use the same unit of measurement, not 2 different ones. The second reason we should convert to metrics is that is a lot easier to convert than the cusomary unit. The whole metric system is based on powers of 10. Meanwhile, customary unit has different conversion units for lenghth, weight, and volume. In class i read that there was a $125 million spaceship lost. The reason for this was that some of the scientist used customary and some used the metric system. Because of this mistake there is a piece of valueable space machine lost because there was a confusion of measurements. I hope I have pursuaded you that the U.S. should convert to the metric system.

The United States should definetly go metric. We should go metric because it is so much easier and simplar than customary and because we are only one of three countries that goes by customary. Customary has too many different terms of measurement and isn’t very exact. Metric goes by the base number of 10, making every measurement accurate and easy. That is why the U.S.A. should GO METRIC!!!
P.S. The only bad thing about going metric is that all grown-ups (except for math teachers) only know customary. Kids can learn metric very easily and quickly, but adults can’t learn it quickly. The change would be very different to every one, and so sudden. If we go metric, we should at least do so slowly, so citizens can catch up.

I think America should go metric. America is one the dumbest countries(even though everyone who is reading this is very smart) and we should keep everything simple by going metric. Metrics are based 10 so it is easy to learn and teach. Since its based on 10 it also means that converting the units to other units is much easier because their would a lot less multiplying and dividing. Also the metric system is used in 95% of the world, which means that trading with other countries is really hard and if we changed trading would be not just easier but more accurate and efficient. Lastly, since the measurements of the metric system are smaller they much more accurate. I know change can be hard but this change would be good change, change for the benefit not the doubt.

I do agree with Carson. I don’t even know how to check the temperature in Celsius. But, I do think that we should go metric because eventually, we will be cut off from the world in trade. Soon, we won’t be able to trade with foreign countries that use metric. I read the article on the spaceship being lost in space because the scientists working on it used the English measurements. It made a difference. 125 million dollars were spent and lost on this project. Metric would make many things easier. It is easy to convert and easy to learn. It is easy to convert because it is based on ten. I think that we should go metric, even though it would be hard to get used to.

I also agree with Frankie that The U.S. should go metric. Other countries are starting to reject any item trying to be traded if it does not have a metric measurment. Also, we, being the United States, are one of few countries that do not use the metric system. If we do not change to the metric system soon, we will not be able to trade items across seas any more, we will just get rejected. And, researchers and people like them who travel all over the world would not know how to use measurments, and would probably not be able to get a big patr of their research done. This is why I think the U.S. should go metric.

I think we should switch to metric because that is what all the other contries, except England {which uses a bit of both}. Of course this would be easier to convert and all that. But besides that, it would make trade easier with other countries, and possibly increase trade from U.S. Also we signed something making metric units our main measurment system. Now were are we, we are using the U.S. Customary system. That is why we should go Metric.

I think that we should go metric because of lots of different reasons. Some reasons is because almost every other place in the world uses metric and it would be easier to trade and use. It would be easier to use because everything is by 10’s in metric and it is hard to learn here. As Mrs. Gebel always says mathmitishions are lazy and it would be easier to use the metric system. There is no reason why we shouldn’t go metric. It actually just makes it harder for us because we can’t trade as well and it is hard to know the US way

we have to move on to metrics! We and two other countries are the only people who use customary mesuring. The metric sytem is so much easier because it is based on the power of ten. If we move to metrics we can trade with countries without problems. It is also easier to convert metrics. if we convert the customary we have to go ounze to pound to ton which is imposible for other countries to learn. America should move to metrics.

We have to move to metrics. We are the most powerful country in the world but we are still using and outdated and little used measuring system. switching would make trade so much easier. Metrics are also easier to learn and to use. Also we have a treaty with other countries which says if we dont convert to metric by 2009 they will stop trading with us. We are secludng ourselves from the world. We need to go metric

I think that we should go metric. The U.S. is one of the few countries that still uses customary units andd thats not good becasue the rest of the world is like moving on with out us. Starting in 2009 countries such as France are going to stop trading merchandise with customary units on them. Also, metrics is a whole lot easier to covert things to. Thats because it is all based on the power of 10 unlike customary units where the number a measurement can be based on can change depending on whether you are talking about mass or length. Ithnk that the U.S. needs to catch up with the rest of the world and go metric.

The United States should definitely go metric. We are becoming more isolated from other countries in trade and other business because we are the only major trade company using the customary system. We are taking steps toward going metric, though. A law has been passed requiring engineers to use the metric system when a billion dollar mistake was made because engineers were using different measurement systems. Mistakes like these will continue to happen if we don’t convert. It is becoming harder to collaborate with other countries because of the customary system. I hope we as a country can take the steps necessary to convert to metric and make our country a better place.
Sincerely, Halle

I think we should switch to metric because it is easier for traders to calculate and it just is. We’re the only country without it and it’s easier because it is sequences of 10. It uses easy prefixes and suffixes to remember so it’s also easy for people to learn. The U.S.A. is the most powerful country in the world and yet we use standard. Overall, we should use metrics.

For right now, the United States shouldn’t switch to the metric system. As other people have stated above, it would be too hard to just suddenly start using Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Most traders will have the trusty computer at their disposal to convert units of measure. The United States could slowly start trying to teach the metric system, but it will take slow time getting kindergardeners learing Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. I hope you have seen my point in this paragraph.

I believe that we should go metric. If the whole world was metric, then everything would be a lot easier, and we’re the only ones stopping that. Being out of the magic number “10″ trading is very easy. The U.S.A is one of very few countries that has not converted to metric, yet. I think that we will eventually convert in my lifetime. Instead of choosing random things, the metric system is based on modern, realistic stuff, not by nature.
LETS GO METRIC!

We should definately move to metrics. The customary system is used in only 3 countries in the entire world including the U.S., and the metric system is used everywhere else. Also it is a lot easier to convert because everything is converted by ten. Also trading is becoming a lot harder when almost every other country is using the metric system and we are not. That is why I think the U.S. should go metric.

I think that we should go metric in this country. We should go metric because our country is one of the very few that are still using U.S customary. Other countries are trying to do buisness with us but they do not understand U.S measurments. And besides the Metric system is in 10’s. Which makes a lot easier to convert Metric than U.S. We as a country should go to the metric system.

The U.S has to go Metric. Trade will increase, it will be easier to learn and we will be able to convert quicker. The Metric system is converted by 10. Since we are the strongest country we shoulde be able to trade with everyone else. Our trade is slow and hard with the Customary so we should switch because then it will be fast and painless. Being the only country using the Customary is very hard. We are stiking to the past binstead of accepting the future. We as the most infuenitial country should catch up and use the metric.

2, 4, 6, 8, who do we appreciate? Metrics! Metrics!
The U.S. should have switched to the metric system a very long time ago! Only 5% of the world uses the customary system and that is not good if we want to trade with the other 95% of the world. Something would bound to go wrong. Another reason we should go Metric is because it is easy to convert things. This is easy because the metric system is based on the unit ten. For example, if you had 4 kilometers that’s equal to 4,000 meters and that means kilo is the same thing as 1,000-a power of 10. The customary system is not based on the unit 10. It is based on a different number system depending on what you are measuring-length, mass, or capacity. I hope the U.S. goes metric soon and I hope I persuaded you into why the U.S. should go metric!!!

The United States of America should go metric in everything except sports. I think we should go metric because 95% of the world does and our country would have a much easier time trading with other countries. This would help are economy become stronger and more global. Also, it is much easier to convert measurements to different units in the metric system than it is in customary. This would help anyone that does any sort of work around their house, especially in the kitchen. I do not think that we should go metric in sports because it is part of our history. What would happen if in this super bowl the Giants lost because they had to kick a 48 meter feild goal instead of a 48 YARD feild goal? Overall, the U.S. is behind the world in measurement and needs to switch now!

I think that we should go metric in the United States. The U.S. should have switched to metric a while ago. 95% of the world is metric, and we are apart of the 5% that isn’t. If we converted, then trading with other countries would be a lot less complicated. Many things have gone wrong because we haven’t. For exanple, a spaceship was lost because we didn’t have the right measuring system. It is also a lot easier to learn because they are all powers of ten. Changing would not be as hard as some would think, and it would benefit us more then it would damage us.

our country should convert to metrics. having a system of measuring that only 5% of the world’s countries use is bad for buisnesses. the United States’ financial future hangs in the ballance. this difference effects not only the US but other countries too. the world’s biggest as well as its smallest buisnesses will crumble if we don’t do something soon about this problem, and in my point f veiw, people’s lives are in danger. the effects on internatoinal transportation and shipping will be disaterous in these comming years. plus, the metric system is based on the number ten, what could be easier than that.

Every country in the world execpt three are metric. Metric is also eassier and only uses tens. Also Europe will refuse to trade with us if we dont put metric measurements on our products. This will make rates go down and many people will lose their jobs. If we dont go metric we will have bad relationships with many other countries of the world.
